Dance Me This

As outlined by the Zappa Family Trust, Dance Me This "is the last title FZ finished in 1993 along with Trance-Fusion; the last chapter in his master work Civilization Phase III; and of course, The Rage & The Fury, The Music of Edgard Varèse."

The largest part of Dance Me This, released this month via Zappa Records, is taken up with five movements of the early, Synclavier-heavy “Wolf Harbor,” an intense piece with atmospheric variations.

Frank talked about the project with Guitarist magazine a few months before his death, announcing he was doing a Synclavier album intended to be used by contemporary dance groups. For this reason Dance Me This is unlike other Zappa albums, yet has components which are noticeable from some previous works.

Zappa turned to the Synclavier as his primary compositional device in 1984 with a couple of albums, Francesco Zappa and Boulez Conducts Zappa: The Perfect Stranger.

Zappa's posthumous output nearly suits the number of recordings he released while alive. Dance Me This will be the artist's 39th effort since his death. Prior to that, Zappa put out 61 albums from 1966 to 1993.

Dance Me This is cited as Zappa’s 100th album, with headings such as Pachuco Gavotte, Goat Polo and five movements of Wolf Harbor.
